Today in the United States, employer-sponsored health benefits are the source of coverage for more than 149 million individuals.1 Fueled by many factors, including rising costs, legislative changes, new provider models, and evolving market forces, the health care industry is undergoing a transformation. And as health care evolves, so must the employer’s role in it. What has not changed, however, is employers’ belief that health benefits are a key differentiator for talent. In fact, most large employers plan to continue offering coverage in spite of the uncertainties in the health care market. To keep pace with the changing environment, employers must rethink their role in health coverage: how they sponsor, structure, and deliver health benefits, and how they manage costs while keeping employees healthy, productive, and satisfied.

In the spring of 2015, 4 employees from the company’s primary manufacturing plant discovered that fraudulent tax returns had been filed using their names, addresses and social security numbers. These were random incidents and not the result of a company data breach. After repeated attempts involving many hours trying to personally remediate the problem, the employees turned to the head of HR for aid in resolving the situation.

In the past, employers that ordered background checks on applicants and employees (“candidates”) would receive a report that captured the candidate’s background information at the time of the report. Employers that wanted to find out whether their incumbent employees had been, for example, arrested for or convicted of a new crime had to order a new background report, which can be costly.

Although criminal and civil penalties saw a dramatic change, it’s imperative to note that each of these states’ laws specifically provide that employers do not need to accommodate employee marijuana use at work. Employers are still authorized to prohibit the use of “recreational” marijuana,

The analysis shows that connected health and fitness interventions can close the gap between the everyday actions that change health and drive outcomes for employee health and employer cost. Some of the key findings include: * Employees who opted into the Fitbit program demonstrated significant cost savings when compared to the control group. * Engaged users cost less than non-engaged users. * The opportunity for cost savings is potentially the highest with less active individuals.

The employment landscape was relatively static for years. Sure, there were changes, but employers and employees could count on the traditional hire-toretire career path. And while that path hasn’t always taken place at one company, the idea was still the same: get a job, improve your skills, move into a higher position, repeat until you retire. Employers thought employees valued vertical moves, and ever-vertical salaries that moved one way—up. Employees either didn’t know any better, didn’t think about it, or didn’t think there were options. The few employees who were dissatisfied with the status quo braved the entrepreneur path, with uncertain success but potentially brighter futures.

Over the last three years, social networks have experienced exponential growth. Employee networks have grown accordingly, offering access to structured career data through sites like LinkedIn in particular, and unstructured data through networks like Facebook. Employees are continually adding new contacts and growing personal networks. Job posting tools that share jobs into social networks are often described as social referral tools, though this is an inaccurate and misleading description. The more sophisticated of these tools create unique links for sharing that enable employers to identify which of their employees originated the share. This is useful for recognition and reward, whilst the practice of sharing jobs in the wider network is to be encouraged in order to reach job seekers who are browsing or using search engines to identify opportunities. Job seekers are increasingly connecting with their peers in organizations they want to work for. Encouraging employees to share jobs in

A recent Human Capital Institute report found that 69% of respondents are having difficulty filling critical positions and only 20% agree that they have a strong talent pipeline for critical roles. Competition is fierce and the power has clearly shifted from employers to the candidate. Today’s job candidates expect to be treated like consumers, and the most successful marketing teams know that consumers are increasingly suspicious of brands. These marketing teams implement strategies to foster trust and loyalty among their target audience. Just like marketers, recruiters must have the ability to not only attract but engage candidates as well, and they are tasked with fostering that same trust and loyalty among the candidates they hire as well as the ones they don’t. It’s not enough to just leverage the latest tools and implement trend-setting processes in the recruiting department. Recruiters must also live the employer brand every day. Living the brand encompasses demonstrating the EV
