MBSI was providing approximately 800 virtual desktops to their employees using VMware Horizon with View and 8 VMware ESXi hosts and they were running an additional 140 virtual servers using 5 VMware ESXi hosts – all on a Tegile Hybrid SAN. “It was shortly after we converted from ICD-9 diagnosis codes to ICD-10 codes that performance for the VDI desktops began to suffer noticeably,” explained Shawn Wood, Assistant Manager of Systems Administration, MBSI. “We have relied on Xangati for a number of years now to help us quickly see where bottlenecks are in a short period of time. When it came time for Southwest Vermont Medical Center (SVMC) to deploy a new barcode medication administration (BCMA) system, SVMC chose a Zebra positive patient ID system consisting of barcode printers, scanners, software tools, media and labels. Since that time, over two million medication doses have been administered. Nurses have been able to achieve an average medication scan rate of over 95% and a patient identification scan rate in excess of 99% for inpatient units. Even more impressive, these results have been sustained over a five-year period.

Dallas-based Parkland Health & Hospital implemented a Zebra technology solution to create a mobile-enabled workforce at its new state-of-the-art hospital campus. That mobile solution enabled the nursing staff to focus on what’s most important — patient care. The solution gave nurses the ability to communicate in real time, access right-now information and take the right action with that information. Parkland’s leadership was able to track all patient activities from positive patient identification and specimen collection to laboratory specimen tracking and pharmacy medication administration.
